In the Spring of 2022, the Digital Humanities Research Group of USC’s Humanities Collaborative initiated a pilot support program for faculty and graduate students in need of technological assistance with digital humanities or computational research projects. Two undergraduate students in the College of Engineering and Computing were each hired for ten hours a week and were matched with researchers based on their interests and skill sets.
Over the past academic year, these students have been instrumental in developing numerous digital humanities projects. For example, one student created a WordPress site capable of searching a linked Archive-It database and a Scalar book with image annotations. Another student worked with story maps in ArcGIS and website development. These students were able to strengthen both hard and soft skills that will improve their future job marketability.

Now, we’re opening up this assistance to other USC faculty and graduate students. If you have an idea for a project with a heavy or nontraditional computational component and could use some extra help, apply for assistance through the Digital Humanities Research Group. We will let you know by the beginning of the fall semester if your project has been selected for support.
