This digital collection contains materials on the problem of Hunger in American from South Carolina Political Collections. In 1969, Senator Ernest Hollings went on a tour of South Carolina’s most impoverished areas in several trips known as the “Hunger Tours” – trips that ultimately culminated in the book The Case Against Hunger. The collection includes records from the Ernest F. Hollings Papers on such topics as the Food Stamp Program, the National School Lunch Program, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and more.

This collection contains original materials with racist and ableist language, as well as outdated medical terms for intellectual disability. Such materials have individual notes about the presence of this language in each record.
