Oscar Montgomery Lieber

In July 1860, South Carolina State Geologist Oscar M. Lieber (1830-1862) joined the United States Coastal Survey expedition to Labrador to observe the total eclipse of the sun. Lieber kept a journal of the voyage, often sketching the people and landscapes he encountered. This exhibit highlights entries and illustrations in the journal, which is held by the South Caroliniana Library.
